In this study, a novel absorption water heater is proposed, and its performance is discussed by comparing three absorption water heater cycles, namely, a standard cycle, an AHE cycle, and a dual cycle. By replacing the conventional water heater with a standard cycle absorption heat pump water heater, the COP will increase to 1.35, corresponding to an improvement approximately 50%. However, the operating temperature and pressure of this heater are very high. The AHE cycle has a similar COP, but it also has the drawback of high temperature and pressure. In the case of the dual cycle system, the COP increases to 1.59, and the operating temperature and pressure are much lower than that of the other cycles. However, designing, optimizing, and actually operating such a complex system is a real challenge. We intend to develop such an system in our next study.
